The authoring team
RenterLaw is made by 2 people. Every guide passes through both of us before it goes live.
Cameron Monteith
Reviewing Editor
Cameron Monteith is the reviewing editor for every guide on RenterLaw. Some drafts start as AI-generated research. Others he researches himself. Either way, everything is checked by hand before it goes live: each statement is verified against the primary legal source it cites.
Cameron has worked in nonprofit spaces in Pittsburgh for 7 years and counting, ranging from event organizing and government social work to grant writing. He believes in equitable housing and walkable infrastructure. When not volunteering for RenterLaw, he publishes fiction and poetry under the pen name J.B. Kalf.
Nazanin
Technical Publisher
Nazanin built RenterLaw and runs it. She is a software engineer. She designed the data model and the drafting pipeline, and she reviews guides. She likes bringing systems engineering to fields far from software to see what she can build. She believes everyone deserves access to their housing rights.
How the pipeline works
Curious about the machinery? Our drafting system enforces citations at the data level. A citation can only be saved when its quote appears word for word in the source. A made up citation cannot enter the system. Drafts always land in a review queue. Cameron's hand check is the final gate, and nothing is published without it.
