A low cost court for money disputes. You do not need a lawyer.
The general rule
If the letter does not work, sue in small claims court. You do not need a lawyer there. Filing usually costs $10 to $50. In most states you can sue for up to $5,000 to $10,000. The exact limit depends on your state.

You can also sue in justice court without a lawyer. The judge can order the repair, cut your rent back to your first request date, and award you 1 month's rent plus $500.
