Community Advocates' Rental Housing Resource Center takes walk-ins Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm, at 728 N. James Lovell St. in Milwaukee. Staff there can look at your case and point you to more help.

Wisconsin's Emergency Assistance (EA) program can pay a family's first month's rent or security deposit after an emergency such as homelessness or impending homelessness. To qualify, you must be a parent or relative caring for a child under 18, with income and assets under the program's limits. Apply online through ACCESS, or call the Wisconsin Works line at 855-757-4539. You can get EA once every 12 months, then must reapply.
