  • Florida Legal Services

    Florida Legal Services runs an eviction prevention helpline. It serves renters in 16 counties in north and central Florida: Alachua, Brevard, Dixie, Flagler, Gilchrist, Indian River, Lake, Levy, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Putnam, St. Johns, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia. Call 1-888-780-0443 if you are at risk of eviction.

  • The Florida Bar

    The Florida Bar Lawyer Referral Service can match you with a lawyer anywhere in Florida. In some major cities a local bar group runs the referral service. Everywhere else, the Florida Bar itself handles referrals. Call 800-342-8011, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can get a 30-minute consultation with the lawyer for no more than $25.

  • Florida Commission on Human Relations

    The Florida Commission on Human Relations handles housing discrimination complaints. Florida law protects renters from discrimination. This includes race, color, or national origin. It also includes sex or disability. It also includes familial status (having children) or religion. Call (850) 488-7082 with questions or to file a complaint.

  • Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

    If your landlord will not return your security deposit, you can file a complaint with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). You can also sue in court instead. Visit fdacs.gov to file with FDACS.

    HUD-approved housing counseling agencies work across Florida. Use HUD's counselor finder at hud.gov/findacounselor. You can search by zip code. You can also search by state. This helps you find an agency near you. For help after a disaster, call HUD at 800-569-4287.
