Legal Services Alabama gives free legal aid to Alabama residents who qualify by income. Call the Central Call Center at 866-456-4995 in English or 888-835-3505 in Spanish. Call Center hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can also apply online.

Alabama has 5 regional Volunteer Lawyers Programs where lawyers give free legal help in certain civil cases to people with low income. Call the program for your county. Birmingham: 205-250-5198. Madison County: 256-539-2275. Montgomery County: 334-265-0222. Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, and Clarke counties: 251-438-1102. All other counties: 888-857-8571.
The Alabama State Bar Lawyer Referral Service can help you find a lawyer for your legal problem. Attorneys who join the service agree to charge no more than $50 for a first 30-minute meeting. After that, you and the lawyer agree on the fee. Call 1-800-392-5660, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs runs it statewide with federal money. For help, call 211 or find your county's homeless assistance contact on the department's website.

The Alabama Council on Human Relations helps renters, homeowners, and home buyers with housing questions. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved this group to give the help. The housing counselor can help with fair housing, money planning, home loan problems, and late rent. The office is at the Frankie B. King Center in Auburn, and sessions are by appointment.
